Fireworks Raft-Up
Liberty Bay

2011 Report
This year's Third of July Raft-up in Liberty Bay was a blast! We had 20 boats in our raft! All club or potential club boats. I believe we were the largest (primarily) sailboat raft up in the bay. I am also proud to announce that due to the excellent anchoring skills, our raft didn't move much or have to be reassembled as did some others we saw! Way to go SBYC! Much fun was had by all and boy, what a major expedition to make it from one end to the other. Whew!
The Rubber Chicken changed hands and shall now reside with Mary on Maile who "accidentally" forgot her burgee. Way to go Mary!
At noon on Sunday those of us present held a memorial toast to Kevin Bruce. It was a heartfelt gathering with a touching speech by Larry. Chris and Jewels led us in a fairly successful attempt to sing Amazing Grace with Dave K backing us on his guitar. Yours truly followed this lovely moment by playing a beautiful version of what turned out to be a wildly inappropriate song. Guess that's what I get for not actually listening to the lyrics and taking Strange Advice from Bad Monkey (who is the monkey that lives on our boat...come meet him sometime!). Oops!
I was struck again by the level of camaraderie we have in our club and how inviting we are all of one another to stop by for a cold beverage or share snacks or dinners or amazing conversation. How lucky I feel to be a part of such excellence! I look forward to each of our events more each time I attend one!
Happy sailing everyone who is on their way out. I look forward to playing with you again at our next event!!!
