Salmon Bake
Brownsville

2011 Report
Well, we’ve come to the end of another Cruising Season…what a joy to spend many good times with old and new friends alike! As we end this season and begin the next I find myself excited thinking about next year’s events. The most exciting part is knowing that I will be with you good people!
The Salmon Bake was no exception, offering a fun filled finale leading us back to indoor mingling for the rainy season. We came by boat and we came by car – 30 of us in all, excited to reconnect after the summer months. We had 13 boats (uh oh, more slips next year?)…nine of which braved the foul weather to arrive to waves slapping up over the Brownsville docks on Friday! Several people came over on the heels of flying back from overseas. What a tribute to the closeness and dare I say awesomeness of our club!
After the stormy Friday, the luck of the club held true with first-rate weather on Saturday, which provided calm waters, a bright sky and no more than a tiny mist in the air during the afternoon. By party time the weather was perfect…and so was the mood! The recognizable sound of laughter ringing up and down the dock provided a familiar soundtrack for this event. Members and guests spent the weekend traveling from boat to boat with ease. Visiting, playing games, telling tall tales and stories of summer trips, working together on Abeona’s batteries, grabbing a beer out of the keg on Drakar, and let’s not leave out the many trips to the Meat Market.
As head chef Rick and his sous chef Cory prepared the salmon, dishes began to arrive one by one on the tables under the pavilion. As always, the food was delicious, causing some members to require napkins before they started eating. Rick cooked the salmon on the half working BBQ, and cook it to perfection he did! There was pretty much nothing left to scrape off of serving dishes – you know it’s good when there are no leftovers! Thanks so much, Rick! And thanks to everyone for the yummy food and those who helped to set up and clean up. Several people stuck around and enjoyed the after dinner sing along with Rick, Dave & Sam.
Mary reports, “whiffs of good smelling breakfast food” starting early Sunday morning, and the usual welcoming atmosphere. This I would not know, thanks to Bad Monkey. Bad Monkey is grounded!
The “SBYC is awesome perfect weather” held most of Sunday allowing most of us enough time to get home nice and dry…all in all, it was a wonderful event. This was my first time at Brownsville and I must say, I’m impressed! For me it really filled the void that I was feeling from having missed the June Dinner Dance!
“Long afterward, many would remember those two days in the first week of October with vividness and anguish.”
